1998 Communion Breakfast

Over 200 parishioners, friends and guests attended the 1998 Communion Breakfast Honoring Deacon Bob Becker on his 20th Anniversary as Deacon. The event also celebrated Pavia Council’s 110th Anniversary.

The Keynote address was given by Associated Press, Special Correspondent, Hugh Mulligan. His talk focused on the trips of His Holiness, John Paul II and the impact of these trips on world events.

As a globe-circling reporter Hugh Mulligan has accompanied His Holiness on the Papal jet, Shepherd One, and has covered 26 of the more than 80 trips made by His Holiness. Mulligan has covered most of the greatest events of the last half-century. His assignments have taken him to 142 countries and every continent.

For ten years his column "Mulligan’s Stew" appeared in some 400 newspapers. Mulligan is also author of No Place to Die, the Agony of Vietnam. He co-authored The Torch is Passed, an account of President Kennedy’s assassination that sold four million copies. His writings have appeared in more than two dozen anthologies.

Among his awards are the 1967 Overseas Press Club Award for best newspaper reporting from abroad for his Vietnam coverage, and the 1970 Sigma Delta Chi Distinguished Service Medal for his reporting from Cambodia. Hugh Mulligan also won the prestigious Associated Press Managing Editors Award for outstanding reporting in 1972 and 1978.

Pavia Council thanks the members of St. Mary’s Youth Group for serving the meal.
